How a CRCA panel enclosure is built here
Every process runs in house in one Bengaluru factory. Blanks are cut on a fiber laser holding ±0.1mm, with clean dross-free edges that need no secondary finishing before bending or welding. Ventilation slots, cable entries and mounting patterns are CNC punched in a single setup for repeatable hole positions. Forming is CNC press brake bending, which gives repeatable bend angles and consistent radii held across long production runs. Joints are MIG, TIG, spot or laser welded, with seams dressed so they survive finishing without rework. Finishing is powder coating, zinc plating or brushed stainless. A dedicated in-house assembly team builds up complete units rather than shipping loose panels, and a separate in-house QC team runs dimensional inspection on every batch before dispatch. Material is supplied with mill test certificates on request.
IP ratings, gasketing and cable entries: general engineering background
General industry background for specifiers, not tested performance on an enclosure built here. An IP code carries two digits: the first is protection against solids and dust, up to 6 for dust-tight, the second against water, up to 9. Indoor distribution panels are commonly specified at IP42 to IP54, and a dusty plant floor or sheltered outdoor position pushes that higher. The rating belongs to the finished assembly, not the fabricated box alone. A gasket seals only as a continuous loop, and a die-cut strip joined at a corner is the usual leak path, which is why industry practice above IP54 generally favours foam-in-place polyurethane run in a formed channel. Confirm which gasketing methods your fabricator offers before you specify one. An undrilled removable gland plate lets site drill to the real cable schedule, but every gland and blanking plug must carry the rating, and an open knockout voids it. A formal rating comes only from IEC 60529 testing at an accredited laboratory.
Choosing material and finish for a panel enclosure
General material guidance, not a performance guarantee for a particular panel. CRCA is the usual default indoors because it forms and welds cleanly and takes a good powder coat key, but it has no corrosion resistance of its own, so the coating is the whole defence. Galvanised GI moves protection into the material for damp or semi-outdoor duty, though cut edges and weld zones lose their zinc. SS 304 suits washdown or chemically mild environments, and SS 316 adds molybdenum, worth the premium mainly where chlorides are present. Powder coating and zinc plating are not alternatives: powder coat is the thick decorative barrier for visible panels, zinc plating the thin sacrificial protection for fasteners and threaded parts where a powder film would ruin the fit. Deburr before coating either way, because powder thins over a sharp edge. We work CRCA, hot-rolled mild steel, GI, SS 304, SS 316, aluminium alloys and copper sheet.
Design for manufacture notes for enclosure sheet metal
General design-for-manufacture conventions, not limits specific to this shop. Start with an inside bend radius roughly equal to material thickness for mild steel; tighter radii risk cracking on the outer fibre, especially across the rolling grain. Keep holes at least two and a half times thickness from the bend line, plus the radius, or they deform into slots as the metal draws, and about twice thickness from an edge. Add bend relief notches wherever a bend stops part-way across a flange, and dimension from one datum rather than chaining features so tolerance does not stack across a full-height door. Laser cutting suits varied profiles and low repeat counts; punching suits the same feature repeating across a batch, as with louvres and gland plate patterns.

Our electrical distribution panel enclosures are formed and welded from 1.6-2mm CRCA. That range is common for panel work because it takes a powder coat well, keeps a door flat between latch points, and still bends predictably on a press brake. Other materials are worked to drawing, including GI, SS 304, SS 316, aluminium alloys and copper sheet, and material is supplied with mill test certificates on request. Can you build an enclosure to a specific IP rating?
We do not supply IP-certified enclosures. A formal IP rating comes from IEC 60529 testing at an accredited laboratory, and it applies to the finished assembly including glands, blanking plugs and any site-drilled entries, not to the fabricated box alone. What we do is manufacture to the construction your specification calls for: gasket channel, door line, gland plate arrangement and fastener pattern.
